The Council of State has ratified a Memorandum of Understanding between the Canton of Ticino, the Agire Foundation – and through it the actors of the regional innovation system, in particular USI and SUPSI – and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, represented by the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS).

The agreement aims to promote and disseminate responsible and transparent artificial intelligence in Ticino, also leveraging the recent release of the generative model Apertus, developed by the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne and trained on the CSCS Alps supercomputer.

Ticino is the first Canton to ratify a memorandum of this kind with the CSCS. Under the agreement, the CSCS will make its computational, data, and artificial intelligence services available to public institutions, companies, and research institutes in Ticino.

Concrete initiatives are already underway, including the development of an internal machine translation system for the Cantonal Administration. The Agire Foundation will promote the initiative among companies, also through events and coaching activities.
