The 2022 edition of Boldbrain Startup Challenge, our acceleration program for innovative ideas organized with the support of USI Startup Centre and sponsored by the Department of Finance and Economy (DFE) of the Canton Ticino and BancaStato, concluded with the traditional evening event dedicated to the winners’ announcement.
The Award Ceremony was organized for the second time at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano, and registered significant participation, with 550 people attending the event in person and 100 following the live streaming on our YouTube channel.

The national jury, chaired by Jean-Pierre Vuilleumier, assessed the 10 finalists and selected the five winners, who won cash prizes worth CHF 120,000, as well as in-kind prizes and consultancy to help them continue the development of their project. The majority of the audience present at the event voted for Revozona, who thus won the sixth prize worth CHF 10,000.

The first prize went to AliperTherapeutics, who won a cheque for CHF 40,000, a full scholarship of CHF 52,000 for the Executive Master in Business Administration at the Università della Svizzera italiana and a voucher for legal advice at Bär & Karrer worth CHF 5,000. The CHF 30,000 cheque for second place went to AQUAtryp®, while ZARIO came third, receiving a cheque for CHF 20,000. Finally, the fourth and fifth place winners GiPSy and Revozona each received CHF 10,000.

The three winners of Boldbrain Startup Challenge are also given the opportunity to participate in the Swiss Economic Award and MassChallenge Switzerland, two programs that foster the development of later-stage startups, coaching vouchers offered by Connect Switzerland and consulting days at yourCFO. In addition, all finalists receive a voucher from the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property to conduct an initial assisted patent search.

Hemargroup, one of the program’s sponsors, awarded its special prize to GiPSy, who will thus have the opportunitỳ to develop their buoy-drone further. Finally, the special prize awarded by Fondazione Agire will provide FormidAbile, Revozona and ZARIO with one workspace each at our Tecnopolo Ticino for 1 year.

The State Councillor Christian Vitta, in his opening (speech) video message, emphasized the importance of the Boldbrain Startup Challenge in the development of early-stage startups “A growing program that offers an enriching experience for participants and is an important part of the strategy developed by the Canton to support startups. As the Department of Finance and Economy, we strongly believe in this initiative, which represents a joint investment in the future of our economy and our Canton.“
