More research for the benefit of companies
Luca Bolzani is an entrepreneur in the pharmaceutical sector (President of Sintetica SA and Vice President of Farma Industria Ticino) and President of the Agire Foundation, which supports innovation, SMEs and start-ups in Ticino. He recounts the acquisition of Sintetica in 2002 and the company’s growth achieved through international expansion (foreign branches and rising turnover). He highlights that Ticino is Switzerland’s third pharmaceutical hub (after Basel and the Lake Geneva region) and stresses factors such as education, quality of life, a strategic location and access to credit, rather than relying solely on taxation. Agire’s priorities include the Ticino Innovation Park (linked to Switzerland Innovation/Zurich), the digitalisation of SMEs (Digital Coach) and stronger connections between start-ups and investors. He concludes that Swiss research should be used more—especially by SMEs—by fostering an entrepreneurial culture and investment.
